Epidemiology and determinants of cardiovascular disease in Indigenous populations

This Review describes the burden of cardiovascular disease across Indigenous populations and contextualizes the potential drivers and contributors to inequalities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations. The focus is on Indigenous populations across Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the USA, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, American Indian, Alaska Native, Canadian First Nations, Inuit, Métis, Māori, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander peoples.

General Movement Assessment in infancy and later cognitive outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis

To evaluate whether the General Movement Assessment in infancy is associated with later cognitive outcomes from early childhood through adulthood.

Understanding parents' perspectives of repeated blinded continuous glucose monitoring in children with early-stage type 1 diabetes and an affected first-degree relative

To explore the lived experiences of parents of children at risk of type 1 diabetes undergoing repeated blinded continuous glucose monitoring. Since 2021, children with persistent islet autoimmunity in the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity study have been invited to participate in a sub-study involving blinded Dexcom G6 CGM.

Global, regional, and national burden of tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis by HIV status, 1990–2023: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2023

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading global cause of death from a single infectious agent. Recent reductions in global health funding have threatened TB control, making comprehensive assessment of TB, HIV-related TB, and drug-resistant TB burdens before these disruptions essential for shaping effective responses.

Malaria in Papua New Guinean infants: a prespecified analysis of a randomised postpartum antimalarial treatment trial

There are scant and variable data concerning the incidence of malaria in infants in endemic areas. This study evaluated the impact of maternal antimalarial treatment given postpartum on malaria incidence and growth/development in infants from coastal Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Proteomic Insights into Intrauterine Growth Restriction and Its Role in Asthma Pathogenesis

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) increases risk of developing respiratory diseases such as asthma later in life. This study aims to characterize the effects of maternal hypoxia-induced IUGR on the lung proteome and identify key altered pathways relevant to asthma development in male and female adult offspring.

Cost constraints in supporting the Healthy Living Practices in remote Aboriginal communities: A Western Australian perspective

The Healthy Living Practices (HLPs) outline nine essential guidelines for maintaining health in remote Aboriginal communities, yet high costs and poor availability make them financially out of reach for many families. We assessed the cost and availability of essential goods required to support the HLPs in eight remote Kimberley community stores, recording prices during three visits in 2022 as part of the SToP (See, Treat, Prevent) Skin Sores and Scabies Trial, and retrospectively comparing these (inflation-adjusted) with Perth and Broome prices in 2024.

Platform trial in COVID-19 priming and BOOsting (PICOBOO): The immunogenicity, reactogenicity and safety of seven licensed COVID-19 vaccines delivered as fifth dose or subsequent boosters

PICOBOO is a randomised, adaptive trial evaluating the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of licensed COVID-19 booster vaccines in immunocompetent individuals >12 years old. Here, we present data for seven different vaccines among three pre-specified participant strata defined by age and primary vaccine schedule.

Meta-analysis of associations between childhood emotional abuse and adulthood emotion regulation

This meta-analytic study examined the associations between childhood emotional abuse (CEA) history in adults and eleven emotion regulation abilities. Inclusion criteria were the use of validated and reliable multi-item measures, cross-sectional Pearson's correlation coefficient(s), and retrievable in English.

Population-specific heterogeneity in ontogeny of the broadly-conserved blood transcriptional program during the first week of life

Previous research has shown that immune development during the first week of life, i.e. ontogeny, is progressive, consistent and robust, involving large numbers of differentially expressed genes at each sampled time point.
