Dissociative disorders in children and young adolescents are under-recognised and under-treated. Current diagnostic criteria rely on downward extensions of adult models and do not adequately consider developmental differences in younger populations. This reliance risks overlooking symptom patterns that may be unique in childhood, thereby perpetuating diagnostic gaps and delayed treatment.
Preterm birth is associated with lifelong respiratory sequelae, yet our understanding of lung function trajectories across the lifespan remains limited. We aimed to identify patterns of spirometry development from childhood to early adulthood in survivors of very preterm birth using novel data-driven methods.
Global rates of invasive Group A Streptococcus (iGAS) disease surged from September 2022, exceeding pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels, showing atypical seasonality and disproportionately affecting children. We previously described the epidemiology of iGAS among Australian children from mid-2018 to end 2022 using data from the Paediatric Active Enhanced Diseases network and here provide updated clinical epidemiology for 2023 and 2024 to help inform public health strategies.
Wheezing and asthma exacerbations are leading causes of pediatric hospital admissions. Predicting which children will experience persistent exacerbations remains challenging. Prior research has identified immune endotypes in the nasal epithelium of children with acute asthma and wheezing, characterized by varying balances of interferons and inflammatory markers. Notably, children exhibiting low interferon responses coupled with high inflammation are at an increased risk for recurrent respiratory exacerbations.

Nonvital pulp therapy is a treatment option that can preserve pathologically affected primary teeth and contribute to space maintenance. This retrospective case series examined the healing effects in infected primary teeth after pulpectomy using mineral trioxide aggregate obturation and eruption characteristics of the succedaneous teeth.
Heart valve disease (HVD) can cause morbidity and impairment of quality of life (QOL) both before and after intervention. However, descriptions of the QOL of people with HVD across the disease course are limited. We aimed to collect the experience of people living with HVD through qualitative interviews, focusing on how HVD impacts their self-perceived QOL.
Post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC), or long COVID, are a public health concern. While most recover from SARS-CoV-2 infections within weeks, some experience persistent symptoms. Here, we quantified the association between repeated SARS-CoV-2 infections and the risk of hospital-diagnosed PASC.
The rates of obesity and type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children and adolescents are increasing in many settings worldwide, but data on weight gain in this group are limited in New Zealand. We examined temporal body mass index (BMI) changes and associated factors in young people with T1D in a mixed urban-rural region.
