Evelyn first started at the Kids as a volunteer in 2018, and whilst studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine at the University of Melbourne, returned to work briefly at the Institute in 2022. During their time in Melbourne, they were employed as an Undergraduate Student Research Assistant at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, where they assisted with research into small-cell lung cancer and developed their skills in laboratory work and data analysis.
Now back at the Kids as a Program Assistant for the Strep A Translation team since September 2024, Evelyn strives to use their skills in both creative and technical fields to help maximize the efficiency and public engagement of the many projects in their team. They have been the primary web developer for projects including the Pacific Rheumatic Heart (RHD) Disease Program, has assisted in the development of an internal resource database and collaboration platform nicknamed the "Knowledge Hub", and has produced graphics that became the face of the END RHD Program.
Evelyn's strong sense of social justice and out-of-the-box thinking are at the forefront of everything they do, and they take pride in seeing their work become part of efforts to help communities get their voices heard and is committed to helping reduce the systemic health inequity faced by populations in Australia and across the globe.
